KonMari Method

What is the KonMari Method?

Marie Kondo is a bestselling author and organizing consultant whose book, “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up” became an international bestseller and has been translated into dozens of languages. Her follow up book, “Spark Joy” was also very successful and Ms. Kondo began training consultants in her tidying methods in Summer 2016. Two seminars were held in the United States, one in New York and a second in California during August. She is the creator of the KonMari Method and continues to have home organizing services in Japan. Trained consultants are completely independent and operate their own tidying up businesses around the world.

In this method, we sort by category, not by room. We begin with clothing, then move to books, papers and other household “komono” or miscellaneous. Gratitude and mindfulness are at the center of what we do, sharpening our decision-making skills, which translates to other parts of our lives. We thank our belongings before discarding them and “shop at home” for organizing bins, boxes, etc. instead of buying new ones. Most importantly, we use JOY as the test whether things stay in our lives. “Does this Spark Joy?” is the question we ask ourselves of each item.

Carmen, the owner of Sorted, attended the KonMari training seminar in California and had been working with clients prior to attending. The training really helped her fine tune the method and she is happy to pass that knowledge along to her clients.
